Otagiri -Mary Ann Baker
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
He's got his best suit on and a flower in hand, I bet this guy has a hot date!

This is a wonderful collectible item. It is a mug from a company called Otagiri located in Japan. They make wonderful pottery items and dinnerware. This design is by Mary Ann Baker.

The pieces are almost impossible to come by. I saw the entire set of dishes when they first came out, but even then they were very expensive.

The line branched out into bathroom and desk-top items, some of which I have and will be adding them here in the future. An absolutely wonderful set.

Frog Box #4
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
I love the frogs that play instruments. While I have not done any research as to why it is popular, I think it is because of the wonderful music that frogs make each summer night. The air here at Frog Central is just filled with music!

This froggy is a new addition to the frog collection. It is a hinged box with a little red heart in the box. While there are no markings on the piece itself, the box states that it is from Direct Connection in Chino, California, and that it is item number 290.12E.

Frog Fantasy - Now and Forever
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Well weddings are not just for June. This couple has decided that a December wedding will do them just fine. And they plan on going off to their honeymoon in style.

This figurine is part of the Frog Fantasy collection from Westland and is called Now and Forever and is item number 3523. The Frog Fantasy line dates from 1995.

A great collectible find is the story behind my obtaining my Frog Fantasy collection. I had been searching for them for some time and finally came across the entire set on e-bay. I was able to grab the entire set for a very low price and was overjoyed when they arrived. I received an e-mail from the seller several days later saying that he coudln't get any more of them and had wanted to keep them for his own collection. While not outright asking, he wanted to buy them back! Sorry, not for sale.

Russ - Scoops
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Well it finally happened here at Frog Central - Snow! It's only a couple of inches but Scoop here wanted to make a snowman for all the tadpoles, so he donned his wool cap, grabbed his shovel and out into the snow he went. Now it wasn't a lot of snow so he was only able to make a small snowman, but I hear the tadpoles loved it!

This wonderful frog is from Russ and is part of their Christmas Country Folks collection. His name is Scoops. These wonderful dolls designed by Kathleen Kelly have a bean bag style body and resin face, hands, and feet. They were made in limited quantities and very hard to find. If you find any and want to donate them to the Frog of the Day site please let me know.

Grumpy Old Toads - Chess
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Ah, the toads of Mudwiggle Marsh are back again. Their grumpyness is legendary as they muck about the swamp living life with a humorous moodyness.

Meisterberry Toad was the genius of the swamp, but he was a lonely old toad. His great intellect kept him from bonding with the common toads. His was the pursuit of perfection, the discovery of order amidst the chaos, and understanding the great mysteries. One of his biggest mysteries was those darn mice who beat him daily at chess. Well, it must be something with the phase of the moon - surely his great mind was not at fault! (from the hang tag)

Frog of the Day

A single frog at the holidays. But this connoisseur of love as written a personal. He's seeking a tasteful, full bodied relationship with someone who enjoys the finer things in life . . . a dry sense of humor, a well aged character and kisses sweeter than wine. It is a very good year . . . for romance!

This wonderful shelf sitter frog is from Big Sky Carvers and is part of their Single Green Frog Collection. The personal above is from the hang-tag. The artist is Phillis Driscoll.

From the box: Tired of kissing toads? It's a big pond . . . Let "Green Singles" help you find your soul mate!

Sprogz - Flipped on Fire
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

This fun Sprogz is called Flipped on Fire and he is definately a lot of fun. While he is numbered SG206, his red hat has the number 1/2 on it.

Statuary
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Here at Frog Central it has turned bitterly cold, so outdoor froggies come inside. And in the close quarters you just have to know that some are going to end up cuddling together to keep warm!

This statuary has no identifying marks. Although is was purchased as outdoor statuary, it really is too light to place outdoors. (And I'd lose sleep worrying about them!)

Sprogz - Hop E. Flosser
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Every time that I look at this cute little Sprogz and especially the look on the face, I know he must be thinking - so they do come out! Every Sprogz has a dream and with a name like Hop E. Flosser (number SG231) I guess being a dentist was just destiny.

While a dentist today may not use a pair of pliers to extract a tooth, when I was young the dentist I went to certainly did! I just wonder if he had the same expression on his face when he pulled a tooth - personally, I had my eyes closed!

Ceramic Scrubby Frog
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Once upon a time, long ago and far, far away. . . Every story has a starting place and here at Frog Central this little ceramic scrubby frog holds a very special place. That's because this was the very first frog of the collection. It was the result of a joke about a wide-mouthed frog that had been told repeatedly around where I worked. The joke was on me when on the following holiday I received a large number of frogs from everyone I knew. And thus, some 20 years later, I am able to share my loveable froggies with all of you.

This is an Annalee doll and is labelled 10 inch Country Frog. It is part of a set (the first Country Frog playing a fiddle was the first entry onto this blog). Just a note about the photography today - the yellow on the stomach is a shadow and not a stain on the doll.

Harmony Kingdom - Bog Hopper
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

Harmony Kingdom has some great frog pieces and this is no exception. It is called Bog Hopper and is from their Interchangeables line. If you have different pieces from this line, you can actually interchange pieces between them. Bog Hopper has three pieces to him. The back lifts off to reveal the trinket box and the head is a seperate piece that can be liften off. I can only imagine the types of weird animals you could create with the whole set! This cutie comes in a box labelled Treasure Jests and that sums it up quite nicely.

Frog Bank
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Sometimes you find a cute little frog in the most unlikely places. I was at a rummage sale that advertised glassware and came across this little guy and for a dollar he came home with me. Made out of cerammic, it has some unique painting styles, but whimsy is what makes it adorable. It is a bank with a slot in the back and the plug in the bottom. All in all, I think I made a great buy!
