Frog of the Day

Frog Statuary
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Oh my goodness, she's a runaway bride! Sorry, I listened to CNN this morning - somehow this has been their only news story for some 4 hours!

This fun frog is statuary to place outside (which I never do). It has a made in China sticker on the bottom, but otherwise no identifying marks. It is one of a set of 3. I like to pick up on the Sprogz theme and say it is Hear No Lizard! It is very heavy and the set makes a nice addition to the frog collection.

Weird Frog Story

I saw this article and just had to pass it along. Even though I put up collectibles, we must remember our froggy friends in the wild, especially the endangered ones. This story makes me sick on several counts!

LIMA, Peru (Reuters) - Peruvian officials saved some 4,000 endangered frogs from being whizzed into popular drinks after they were found hidden in an abattoir.

"We were checking the fridges when out jumped a frog. It had escaped, they were in big crates," a spokesman for Lima city hall said on Thursday.

Frog cocktails are popular in the Andes because of their supposed aphrodisiac qualities. Shops in central Lima selling the drinks have tanks where customers can choose their frogs.

He said the Telmatobius frogs -- which had apparently been brought from the southern lakes in the high Andes -- were found on Wednesday stored in the abattoir.

They were taken to a colonial fountain in central Lima to splash around before being returned to their native lakes by ecological police.

"There were about 5,000 of them but 1,000 died because of the conditions and in transit," the spokesman said.

Frog of the Day

This collectible is a lot of fun! It is from Boyds Bears & Friens and is part of the Wee Folkstone Ribbit & Co. This piece is called Lloyd Tadpool . . . Surf's Up. And what a surf! I hope the rubber duckie doesn't get washed away! This is a limited edition piece. Mine is from Edition 3E and is piece number 290. This piece dates to 1999.

Frog of the Day

The weather is starting to warm back up after a cold snap and the garden centers are advertising lots of flowers. It just makes Mrs. Gardenhopper want to get out there and start working. And I say as long as I don't have to do it - have at it!

This collectible is from Russ and designed by Kathleen Kelly. It is part of the Country Folks collection and is called Mrs. Gardenhopper.

I just love the Kathleen Kelly frogs. They have a bean bag body but a resin head, hands and legs. They are so cute and a lot of fun to collect.

The Last Afternoon with Sprogz

Sprogz - Je T'Aime
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Looking in on the pond and all the Sprogz has been fun, but with today's entry they've all had a chance to make an appearance.

This Plush Sprogz is called Je T'Aime and is number SP005.

There is supposed to be new Sprogz coming later this summer and so look for this feature to return when they come in.

If you have been keeping track every day - and who wouldn't be - then you may realize that there are 4 Sprogz items that I do not own. 3 of them are music boxes. The reason I did not purchase them is that they took 3 of the larger Sprogz and stuck them on top of a music box. My feeling was that I already had the Sprogz, I didn't need them again. The last I would love to own, but it is very expensive and if someone would like to make a donation that would be wonderful. It is a large display that can hold quite a few of the smaller Sprogz. It can be found at www.afroggyplace.com.

I hope that you have enjoyed this feature and continue to look for the Frog of the Day.

Frog of the Day

This frog collectible was certainly a tough one to photograph. He is from Hallmark and is a miniature called Prince Charming and stands just a little over an inch tall! The artist is Sue Tague. It is made of metal and beads and is a dated 2004 ornament.

This Plush Sprogz is called Frog Heaven Angel and is number SP006.

Frog of the Day

The sun is back, it's getting a bit warmer, and so why not hop onto the nearest lilypad and read a good book. Unfortunately this frog fell asleep before he could finish reading this self-help book and when he wakes up he won't know what to do with the dragonfly perched on his book.

This collectible is really cute, but I do not have any information on it other than a made in China sticker and the date of 2003. I received this as a gift and I just love it!

It's been an interesting morning here at Frog Central. The computer doesn't want to work, the software doesn't want to work, and to be honest, the operator doesn't want to work either! It looks as if Fric and Frac's smile has us a little goofy today!

This Quarry Critters collectible is called Fric and Frac. This is one of the smaller pieces from Quarry Critters and is quite affordable (under $10). And who can resist the faces.

Grumpy Old Toads - Golfing
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
The Master's tournament is on but I haven't heard about Strike Duffrough - I hope he made the cut to the next round.

This is the last of the Grumpy Old Toads from Westland. It is called Golfing.

From the tag:
Strike Duffrough was in yet another quandry. This round of golf had been enough of a toadmare already, and now the Beekabird had adopted his golf ball as potential offspring! How could he convince his partner that a nested ball deserved a free drop? Or, could he grab the ball before the Beekabird pecked him?

The amount of detail that has gone into these Toads of Mudwiggle Marsh is extraordinary. Notice the hat has golf course greens as its motif. The vestment is covered with the design of golf tees and golf balls. The front design also offers a water hazard and the green rim around the top of the outfit has flag designs for the flags that you would find at a hole. A wonderful piece to collect.

If you have enjoyed the Grumpy Old Toads please consider donating to this site. Westland, which has produced this set has several new sets of frogs available - including Frogs on Parade which would be great to showcase here.
