Today's Frog comes courtesy of Kathy in New Jersey. This is her froggy scrubby holder. Kathy tells me that this little guy is not only cute but functional too - keeping watch over her as she works around the kitchen and ready to help when she makes a big mess!

So which is the favorite frog in your collection? Let me know and you could be the next Guest Frog of the Day.

Yesterday's frog picture, sent to me by Adena from Jerusalem wanted to let you know that she made the Frog King that adorns her office.

I am feeling much better today. I was even up and out early this morning to Walmart to get a new water filter. The local water here smells and tastes like the river from which it comes. Yikes! So it was bottled water this weekend. And how about Aquifina coming forward and saying that they were bottling tap water. CNN said this morning that about 20 percent of the bottled water is just that - tap water.

This frog item is from Fun World Div. and is a frog pin. The frog is holding two hearts and he is the king with quite a crown. The back has a copyright date of 1984.

Thanks A. for submitting this picture and being the first Guest Frog of the Day!

Frog of the Day

It's been a busy morning here at Frog Central. I had to finish packing a large box to send out and get to the post office. Then I went around the corner where a local group was sponsoring a biscuit and gravy breakfast. All in all a good time. The Frog Wrangler gets annoyed with me when I leave but she loves getting a treat when I return! It's getting really hot out there so I was glad to get home and back into air conditioning. Well, on to today.....

Before we get to today's frog, I want to give a big croaking Hello! to a new frog friend from Israel - thanks for reading!

This frog item is from HSI Sculpture and is a Frog Pot/Plant Spike. It is made of a resin material. I do not have a date for this item.

With finally having a full belly she's gone back to her normal eating habits. Here she is keeping careful watch over her favorite toy. These days she spends more time laying next to it, or running around with it in her mouth. Only occasionally does she bring it to me so I'll throw it for her to chase after. Now if those darn lightning bugs would stop bugging her when she goes out.

Tomorrow there is a breakfast being sponsored by a local group which I plan on going to, so I may be a little late tomorrow too.....

This frog item is from W. N. Co. and is a rubber frog. I have a lot of these little dime store frogs - quite a few I've put up before. These are made in China. I do not have a date for this item.

Frog of the Day

Watched BBC last night - the two ladies who go into people houses and clean up. It makes you wonder how people can live in that much filth and clutter. They were using shovels to clean out the ladies kitchen! They took 3 dumpsters of trash away before they started getting into her belongings. It was too much. So needless to say I'm spending today cleaning - I see some things are getting dusty. I'm going to make some baked ziti this morning before things get too hot. I figure that will give me meals for the next few days.

This frog collectible is from Boyds Bears and Friends, and is part of their Wee Folkstone Ribbit & Company line. This piece is called S.C. Ribbit...Hoppy Christmas. The bottom of the piece has a quote from Charles Dickens - "Christmas is close at hand. The season of hospitality, merriment and open heartedness." This is a limited edition piece. Each piece is listed with an edition number and piece number - this one is 2E/1477. The style number is 36750 and dates to 1998.

The temps today are going back into the 90's and the cool nights are over for now, but it was a nice respite for the middle of the summer.

Frog of the Day

I love taking photos of prismatic stickers (I say sarcastically)! About 70 pictures later and this seemed the best - and I apologize for the quality. I received my Harry Potter book yesterday and have made it about half way through last night. I want to finish before someone blurts out the ending. This morning is taken up with chores and errands but this afternoon I plan on having my nose buried one again. The Frog Wrangler has been content to lay at my feet sleeping. The weather is so great here - it was in the 60's this morning - and only going to 83 this afternoon. The first half of the week should be much the same. Time to get things going for the day.....

This frog item is from American Greeting's Forget Me Not Sticker Zone line. It is 2 sheets of prismatic stickers. I do not have a date for this item.

Frog of the Day

Received my popcorn yesterday afternoon from the Popcorn Factory - delicious! You may remember me telling you my dad was broadsided while riding his motorcycle a couple months ago - yesterday it was mom's turn. She was driving her PT Cruiser. Thankfully she was able to call me afterwards and doesn't appear to be hurt. So today is the big day for us Harry Potter fans. I'm awaiting the arrival of the last book - it should be here early this afternoon.

This frog item is a card from Recycled Paper Products. The outside of the card says "Oh! Ooooh! Ooooh! Oh! Ooooohh!" The inside says "You know how to drive me wild." The original design on the front was done by Dick Chodkowski. Made of 100 percent recycled paper. I do not have a date for this item.

LOL With the cooler weather today she's been hanging out near the open windows and spending some extra time outside. But she's 14 years old and that means a fair amount of resting. Here she is doing her best Snoopy impersonation. She may have seen Snoopy being a vulture in a tree but the Frog Wrangler decided her favorite chair was a better place to start.

Frog of the Day

It been a lovely day so far. The heat has finally broken and the temps last night dropped down into the 50's. The trend is supposed to continue for the next couple of days. It should be a very nice weekend. Now if can find a barbecue to go to everything will be perfect! I sat in front of the screen door this morning enjoying the cool air and listening to the cardinals calling to each other. It's fun to watch them playing in the hibiscus bushes. They stand out next to the white and purple blossoms. Even the Frog Wrangler was happy to stay out for a bit this morning checking things out to be sure nothing had invaded her space. I'm looking forward to later today - I ordered one of those popcorn trios from the Popcorn Factory and it is supposed to be delivered today! And with the newest Harry Potter book coming tomorrow - it may be tough coming up for air to blog! LOL

This frog is a Janet Harper Critter Gel Pen. Feathers and felt make up this little frog. A cut little item. I do not have a date for this item.

Frog of the Day

Stephen Colbert would not be happy with today's frog because of the bear! That man is a genius - I love watching both him and Jon Stewart. Last night was a BBC evening for most of the night - they have some great programming. The Frog Wrangler slept until 7 this morning which was fantastic. She went out for just a short time - it is hot! hot! hot! here at Frog Central. It was nearly 80 degrees first thing this morning.

It was really disturbing to watch and hear about the dog fighting rings in this country and their outcome. I think worse though was the outcome for those dogs who didn't want to fight - who stood there wagging their tails and only wanting to give a friendly lick. To be picked up by their hind legs and slammed to the ground, water poured over them and then electrocuted, hung, or shot. I just don't understand the mindset that could do these cruel and sadistic acts. Support your humane societies and if you hear of these fights going on, call the police. This is one "sport" that must be ended.

This frog is from Christopher Radko and is called Princess Muffy and the Polliwog. It was introduced in the summer of 2006 and was only available for a short time. It is style number 1012638. It stand 5 3/4 inches tall. Princess Muffy, wearing a dress adorned with lily pads is holding a polliwog - a tadpole - which looks like it is almost finished with his metamorphosis into a frog. He is already wearing his crown and ready to be kissed.

Hallmark - Frog Get Well Card
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino
The Frog Wrangler and I were dismayed at the CNN reports this morning about the football player having a dog-fighting ring. Especially that if the dogs didn't fight they were basically tortured to death - electrocuted, hung, or hurled to the ground. It was enough to make you physically ill. Last night I was reading about the wolves in the Rockies - the Bush administration wants to open up hunting season on them. They are killed by shooters from helicopters. I am often left to wonder about the humanity of man.

This frog collectible is from Hallmark and is a Get Well Soon card. The outside says "Why is this frog delivering this get-well message to you?" And on the inside it says "There hasn't been much work since he was dropped from those beer commercials." I do not have a date for this card.

We're back - cooking with gas, as the saying goes. The computer got an overhaul yesterday and while still offering a bit of trouble, I was able to get it up and running this morning. Not so yesterday morning, at all! It's been really hot here at Frog Central. The Frog Wrangler and I have been hanging out next to the air conditioning and keeping cool. Her trips outside are short and to the point. I made a trip to Walmart yesterday to stock up on her treats so she's happier than ever. Today I'm resting - doing anything in this heat just drains you. Maybe I could get one of the flying frogs to flap their wings to keep me cool....

This frog collectible is a hand carved frog from Indonesia. These flying frogs are some of my favorites. The painting is very unique. What I've been able to gather is that these frogs are made to be put into the garden to act as a version of scarecrow - scaring away both real predators and evil spirits. Frog of the Day

Who knew you could make pancakes without milk. I read on-line where you could just use water and they come out just as good and since I was out of milk this morning I decided to give it a try. Sure enough - good as usual. I really have to go grocery shopping though. I'm planning on going over tomorrow to pick up some essentials. This morning my sacroiliitis is going gung-ho and the pain killers haven't kicked in yet, so no plans to go anywhere today. Too bad, because the county fair is in full swing this weekend and I wanted to go see the rabbit and chicken shows. I'll have to wait until this afternoon to see how I feel. The Frog Wrangler isn't feeling too good either - the first thing this morning I sat in my chair and promptly had her in my lap wanting to be held. Hopefully we'll both be better as the day goes on.

This frog item is from Jubilee and is a shower curtain. The name that Jubilee gave this is Rib'it. It is a 100% vinly and has 9 different blocks. This is just one of the blocks. I do not have a date for this item.

Originally uploaded by KenCalvino
It's been a busy morning already. The Frog Wrangler slept until 7 this morning and I could hardly believe it when I rolled over and looked at the clock! So all rested and refreshed I headed over to the local hospital and medical clinic for the health fair and had my blood pressure checked, looked through a bunch of booths, and got paperwork so I can go set up an appointment with a doctor there. I swung by the library park to check out the farmer's market on the way home. The only thing they really had were watermelons and I don't think I could eat a whole one, so it was on to home and breakfast. And not a moment too soon - it is hot out there! And it is going to get hotter - the weatherman says we're back into a heat wave of high 90's. I think I need to move to the North Pole - but then I'd bitch about the cold....

This frog collectible is from About Face Designs and is from their Messenger's series. This is Messenger Frog. It is a glass frog with a gold tinged crown. It comes in a really nice presentation box - which every time I put it near the frog in the picture the glass frog picked up the blue and disappeared. This dates to 2001.

Frog of the Day

What's today's date again? It's Valentine's Day? No. Just found today's frog item at the bottom of a box of frogs I was going through and it was elected to be today's rep. Today is actually Friday the 13th. So of course today my computer took a half hour to get going! It better be careful or I just might be like that commercial where the lady gets mad and throws it out the window! Television has been rotten all week and I was reading today that there is a possibility of a writer's strike this fall so all the stations are ordering more reality programs. I sometimes wonder why I pay the cable bill......

This frog item is from Walmart and is a Frog Table Topper Decoration according to the tag. It is a Valentine's Day decoration - the top heart got flipped over and I didn't realize it until just now, sorry. It is made out of wood. I do not have a date for this item.

It was nice and cool this morning - in the mid-60's and so we spent a little extra time enjoying the day before coming in and getting started on the daily chores. I'm in the midst of a cleaning from one end to the other. I made the mistake of watching BBC the other night with those two ladies who go into really dirty houses and clean. It made me physically ill and even though my place is generally neat and clean, I felt that I should redouble my efforts to make sure every nook is scrubbed! I tell you, watch that show and see if you don't get the same motivation. I think I see a dust froggy - gotta go......

Frog of the Day

Strolling around the yard yesterday I was surprised to see the hibiscus hedge turning yellow. It looks like I won't have the prolific flowers that I had last year. Probably because of the lack of rain this year. With no flowers left to bloom I think this year I'll have to get some mums for the fall to keep some color going. The Frog Wrangler and I turned in early last night. I wish I slept as sound as she did! This morning she crawled into my lap and when she wasn't looking I clipped some toenails - when she realized what I was doing though it was the mad dash to get away. Until next time........

Frog of the Day

A wee bit of excitement here yesterday afternoon - a small earthquake shook the house. This was about the 3rd or 4th one I've felt since I've been here at Frog Central. Who knew I was living on a fault line - but apparently not only on a fault line but one the newspapers say is way overdue for a large quake! Yesterday's was only 2.4 - just enough to give the house a good shake and leave you wondering what happened. It even woke the Frog Wrangler up - for a couple seconds anyway....

This frog collectible is from Russ Berrie and is from their Costume Critters line. This is simply known as Frog and as you can see he's decked out with a pumpkin costume. So now I'm into my all my daily chores and guess who finally conked out! I think a nap sounds like a really good idea......

This frog item is a frog ornament. It is in two pieces - the legs dangle. He's holding a candy cane and is wearing his Santa hat. This item came gift wrapped in a Hallmark gift box, but I can find no markings on the item itself as to the manufacturer. I do not have a date for this item.

Frog Wind Chimes

I'm watching the Live Earth concert this morning. It's really is great. I haven't harped on being green lately and it makes me think I've been remiss! So here are some of the tips they've given out today - some I've already discussed to no end. Carpool if possible, change your light bulbs to the compact florescent (remember to recycle them when they do burn out - they have a small amount of mercury in them and it's important to recycle rather tossing them in the trash), use cloth bags when grocery shopping (the U.S. uses 2.2 billion barrels of oil a year producing those plastic bags and they do not break down in the landfills, and lastly, use earth-friendly biodegradable cleaning products. There are lots of sites out there with lots of little tips that we can do every day and that's the way we'll beat global warming.

This frog item is a wind chime. It is one of the nicest wind chimes I've received - it is very heavy and produces a wonderful rich sound. There are no manufacturer marks on it so I'm afraid I don't have any further information on this item.

Sheer horror that when she wakes up there isn't one waiting for her upon her return inside. A horror which she has been very vocal about. I guess I'll be going to Walmart this weekend. She has three of these hard rubber toys but the other two have been abandoned recently in favor of just this one. She'll carry it around in her mouth, thinking she wants to play, only to set it down and lay next to it for a nap. The weather has been a major factor - she hates the heat, and if I was wearing a fur coat, I guess I would too. Her favorite hangout spot is over one of the air conditioning grates. With the temps back up into the mid to high 90's through the next week, I think that's we'll she be all the time and I'll probably be right there with her!

He wrote the words to one of the most widely recorded songs ever - Unchained Melody. Feeling a bit like an obit column today. I looked up the recipe for funnel cakes yesterday and it looked easy enough so thought I'd give it a try. I fired up the deep fryer and it was too easy to make such a good treat! The recipe made lots of batter so I think today I'll be making my own rather than buying them at the park. The Frog Wrangler doesn't enjoy the sound of the fireworks, but since she's lost most of her hearing I don't think she'll bat an eye tonight. Hope you enjoy your day!

This frog collectible is a holiday frog. He comes with six different outfits in which he can get dressed. This 4th of July three-piece costume is one of those outfits. When the holiday is over and the costume comes off he is a relaxed frog wearing a straw hat. He was made in China according to a sticker on the bottom and distributed through Johnson Smith Company in Florida. I received this last year at Christmas time. His outfits are for Valentine's Day, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, 4th of July, and Christmas.
