Frog of the Day

I can't even tell you how happy it made me last night to go around and open he windows and turn on the ceiling fans and as a friend would say "air out the farts." Nice fresh, cool air. The temps at bed time had already dropped into the 60's. I spent a bit of time yesterday in the dog hair war - it's a quagmire I tell you! This morning all the areas that I vacuumed yesterday have dog hair on them today. The Frog Wrangler looks at me as if to say "Nice try." I made deep-fried cauliflower last night - yum! So we're going into the holiday weekend and like many of you I'm going to take the long weekend off. The Frog Wrangler will have her post this afternoon, then we'll be off until Tuesday. So without further ado, on to today's frog......

This frog item is from Innovative Home Creations and is called Frog Laundry Hamper. It folds up when not in use. It is made of a nylon type material with a metal spring woven in the material - kind of like those tents that pop up when you take them out of the package. This cute and handy item dates to 2006.

Frog of the Day

Did you miss me yesterday? It took me most of the day just to make it out of bed. Even then it was only by hanging on my walker for dear life. Such is the joy of sacroiliitis - every morning is like a craps shoot, and yesterday I came up snake-eyes. So I hope you don't mind that I took yesterday to try and put my back in order. Things are still very sore today and I'm afraid that I may be in another flare-up, which means 3 more weeks of fun..... Ah well, glad to be back with all of you here - so let's get on to today's frog......

This frog is not part of my collection - but I just love Clayworks items. Clayworks by Heather Goldminc. From the Great Froggini's Circus of Life collection, this tealight holder is titled "Trust." This inspirational item features a frog putting its head into a lion's mouth. Made of ceramic. Measures 6" x 5.75" x 7.5" high. This can be found at Fun to Collect.

Frog of the Day

It was nice and cool again this morning - but only for a short time - we're heading back up to 100 degrees today. Ugh! This has been one hot summer here at Frog Central. Watched the news this morning with all the fires going on in Greece. They haven't had rain there since April. Wow! Thankfully a number of European countries banded together to help them fight the fires. Living with Ed was on Sunday night and a repeat episode last night on HGTV - I highly recommend this show and his website. Sunday night he showed some small things that you can do around the house that are a minimal cost and bring a big return. Of course the biggest is compact florescent light bulbs - CFL's - and Walmart is having a special again of 3 bulbs for about 8 bucks.

This frog is not part of my collection. This frog item is from Exotic Environments and is their Garden Frog Statue. It is made of polyresin and looks pretty neat. While it is not in stock, there are a lot of other frog statues to choose from at Backyard Style.

Fanciful Frogs - Bee Hoppy

The Frog Wrangler was really happy too because I filled up her treat cabinet. I gave her a busy bone teeth cleaner and she proudly carried it around the house for a couple of hours - hiding and re-hiding it several times before finally settling down to actually chew on it. All the while her tail was wagging a mile a minute. She certainly took today's frog to heart......

This frog is not part of my collection. This frog collectible is from my favorite place - Westland Giftware. This is part of their Fanciful Frogs collection and is called Bee Hoppy. This line of frogs has been discontinued but can still be found on the internet. I found this one at Mystical Dragon.

Talavera Frog
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino

I'm spending the day at Walmart! lol I've got a list a mile long and a ton of coupons - I'll let you know how I make out tomorrow with savings. The temperatures have finally broken here - it's only supposed to be in the 80's today. We're heading back into a foray of 90's, but only for a short period (keep your fingers crossed). I watched Graham Norton last night on television - he is hysterical. Other than that, there was a hundred plus channels of crap. I've been seeing the ads for the new survivor season, that looks really interesting. I got the new wheels for the walker yesterday! I can't tell you how happy I am. I no longer feel like I'm going down a concrete road with it's rhythmic thumping - I'm riding as smooth as blacktop!

This frog is not part of my collection. This is a ceramic Talavera Frog. It is hand-made in Mexico using methods that the Spanish brought over in the 16th century. Talavera refers to the finish of the piece. This frog is named Lily and it is large - 15 inches long, 13 inches wide, and 3 inches high. Pretty reasonably priced too at $33. You can find this and couple other Talavera Frogs at Fine Crafts Imports.

Frog w/Rose and Heart Box
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino
It was a rough evening here at Frog Central - lots of thunder and lightning. Television was murder to watch because they kept interrupting with watches and warnings. Thankfully we didn't get the worst of it. A lot of southern Illinois is without power today and there was quite a bit of damage done. Things quited down here pretty quickly and we ended up having a gentle rain through the night. It was much needed and I hope we get some more. And thankfully the temps have moderated by about 15 degrees. It's not a lot of relief, but I'll take it. On to today's frog......

This frog item is not part of my collection. This is a frog figurine entitled Frog with Rose and Heart Box. It is made of Alabastrite and is pretty good sized at 5 x 4 x 3 3/4 inches. It can be found at The Animal Figurine Store. From their main page you can click on a whole section just for frogs!

Frog of the Day

The Frog Wrangler is not having a good morning, so that means I'm not having a good morning. She brought her toys to me yesterday and we actually played quite a bit for her - then she plopped over in the middle of the hallway and couldn't be moved because she was so exhausted. So I think today the Wrangler is just feeling her age a bit and is giving me heck for it! I watched Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert as usual last night but I'm already lamenting their vacation for the next two weeks. Looks like I'll be early to bed and well rested - for the next two weeks at least. The heat here continues unabated - at first they said relief on Saturday, now they're saying maybe this next Thursday. Going to 105 again today - meanwhile everyone I know on the east coast is telling me their bundling up in jackets to go outside. Crazy!

This frog item is a poster from Portal Publications. The photography was done by Kent Marshall in 1996 with frogs supplied by Bow Wow Productions. It is 36 inches long and 12 inches high. The writing says "You've got to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince!" I received this as a gift about 10 years ago (1997).

Frog of the Day

Another day in the oven - supposed to be about 105 today. It'd be alright being stuck inside all day if there was something halfway decent to watch on television. So I've been getting odds and ends done around the house. Funny how it still seems to be a mess though! lol That's the thing with a small place - one or two things out of place can make it look messy. Not much is on the schedule for today - I'm actually starting to get a little cabin fever but hopefully things will look better next week.

This frog item is not part of my collection. This is an Alfrogo and Frogalina Candle Plate. It was first introduced in 2005 and it holds a 3 inch pillar candle. This, as well as quite a few frogs from this line and others, can be found at Best Frogs.

Frog of the Day

At midnight last night it was 90 degrees here at Frog Central. I'm spending all day these days going around cleaning up dog hair. The Frog Wrangler has continued to shed in large clumps. Even daily brushing does not get all of it! The heat wave is expected to finally break by Saturday, bringing temperatures back down into the 80's. That will be a relief. In the meantime the frogs and I just have to dream of snow and building a snowman.

This frog collectible is not part of my collection, but is very cool indeed. This is from Kitty's Critters and is called Let it Snow. These cute items are super shiny - they're made out of acrylic. You want to keep them out of direct sunlight or it will ruin the finish on them. This item can be found at Frog Gifts. They have quite a nice selection of frogs.

Paragon - Frog and Mushroom
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino
I'm way early this morning! I woke up about 4 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, so much to the dismay of the Frog Wrangler I got up. Of course, about 1 this afternoon I'll probably be sound asleep taking a nap. Rain has been falling in Oklahoma and Minnesota, but none has fallen here. And the prospects for the rest of the month is not good either. My lawn now looks as good as my neighbors - brown. As those who read this blog often know, I love to watch the birds first thing in the morning. This morning there were about a dozen doves picking through the lawn - eating crickets, I hope. They did not seem upset or scared by my presence at all, just intent on their morning meal.

This frog collectible is from Paragon and is a glass Frog and Mushroom. This is a great item and quite heavy. I received this yesterday (and it wasn't even my birthday! - which is October 12th, by the way, hint, hint......lol).

This frog collectible is not part of my collection but if anyone wants to send me one I won't turn it down! This is from Lenox and is called Jewels of Light Frog. It is made of Lenox bone ivory china and is accented with enameling and 24 karat gold. It's their item number 761826A. They introduced it this year (2007) and sells for $45. You can check it out at Lenox. A trick on the Lenox site to see all their frogs - type frogs in their search engine and you get a page of frogs. After checking them out type in Kermit and you get a page of their current Kermit items, which does not show up on their frogs page.

The nights have cooled a bit and it's been nice to open a window and get some fresh air circulating through the house. Another month and I hope to have them open all the time. I'm off to read the Sunday paper - enjoy today's frog....

This frog is not part of my collection but one I hope to obtain soon. This is a Christopher Radko ornament and it is called Ribbit Reader. This is new for 2007 and you can check it out at Angela's Radko. I get most of my ornaments from Angela's - they ship promptly and everything is boxed for the maximum protection of your ornament. Plus, if you go to their animal page - they have separated out all the frogs!

W.M.G. - Frog Lighte Spinner
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino
Finally a cool morning. I've got a couple windows open getting some fresh air in the house before it starts heating up again. It's not supposed to be quite as hot today - but high 80's and low 90's are still air conditioning weather in my book. Almost finished with my latest writing project and already thinking of the next project to tackle. I ran the vacuum cleaner yesterday and this morning it needs it again. The amount of hair that one dog can shed is amazing!

This frog collectible is from W.M.G. of Chicago and this is a Frog Lighted Spinner. It is made in China. The frog itself is pottery - the tongue and spinner are metal. It also has a wooden stick that you can use to put it up outside. The spinner is embedded with six little lights that light up when the wind spins the blades. This is a really cute whimsical piece. I received it as a gift from mom (Thanks Mom!) this last year - 2006.

After being sick a couple days ago she spent most of her days sleeping. But this afternoon she did something she hasn't done in about a month. She brought me one of her toys and wanted to play for a little bit. So a little tug of war and one round of catch and then she laid down and as she drifted off to sleep her tail was wagging and thumping on the floor. It lifted my spirits. I know that as she celebrates her 14th birthday this month that every day is an extra added bonus to enjoy.

The Wrangler did give me heck this morning because I went into the basement and she can no longer navigate the steps down. She stands at the top of the steps and howls at me to either come get her or get back upstairs! She finally laid down at the top of the steps and waited for me to finish some laundry.

Frog of the Day

I feel like a broken record some days when it comes to this heat. The news this morning said that 37 people have now died because of it. I woke up in the night and couldn't sleep so much to the Frog Wranglers dismay I went to the living room to watch a little television and it was wall to wall coverage of another collapse in the Utah mine, killing 3 of the rescuers. With that depressing news I went back to bed and it seemed like I just laid down when I heard the Wrangler next to the bed whining at me to get up and take her out. Then it was retreat to the basement where it's nice and cool and do some wash. On to today's frog.....

This frog item is not part of my collection but I think a pretty cool item. It is a frog figurine of a frog prince and his wife who are together "for better or for warts." Isn't that sweet! This item can be purchased at The Frog Store. Check it out along with a lot of their other items - all frogs all the time. And a friendly staff to boot!

They don't seem to have anything to say now that almost every heat record here in the mid-west is being shattered. I'm too tired - on to today's frog.....

This frog item is a mold from Milkyway Molds. It is used for soaps or candies. The design is frogs playing instruments and singing. I do not have a date for this item.

Frog of the Day

The oppressive heat is just getting to me. I want to open the windows and get some nice fresh air circulating through the house. Last night I sat next to the picture window with my light on doing some reading and I kept hearing something hitting the window - and it was really beginning to freak me out. So I took the Frog Wrangler out and watched some of the biggest bugs I'd ever seen fly into the window to get at the light - YUCK! The Frog Wrangler, who had been sick, finally got whatever was bothering her out of her system - literally. I really need to get a shampoo machine for the carpets! She's been resting comfortably since then, spending a lot of time napping. So the temps today are headed back over 100 - I think I may need to have a fund raiser to pay my electric bill!

This frog item is from Current and is a take off of the old pin the tail on the donkey game - this is Pin the Heart on the Frog. There are heart shaped pieces that each person can use to take their chance. They say "Sweet," "XOXO," "Be Mine," and "Hug Me." I received this game this year - 2007 (from my mom - don't forget to check out her Avon web site - they have lots of things for both gals and guys).

Guitar Player Frog Lamp
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino

The heat here continues and probably will through the rest of this week. Forecast high today is 103 today. It's a shame that 6 people here in southern Illinois have died because of the heat. Most of them were elderly who didn't want to turn on their air conditioning because they didn't think they could afford it.

This frog item is not part of my collection but a pretty cool item - and I thought especially appropriate here on the week of the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. This is a Guitar Player Frog Lamp that can be purchased at Frog Nirvana.

Frog of the Day

The Frog Wrangler woke me up at 4:30 this morning whining at the top of her lungs. After I about scraped myself off the ceiling to find out what the problem was - nothing that I could see - we both settled back down. An hour later I was awoken by the house shaking violently - and again I about had to scrape myself off the ceiling - I realized that we were in the midst of a nasty thunderstorm. And there in the flashes of light I saw the Frog Wrangler standing at the end of the bed and you just knew what she was thinking - "Told you."

This frog item is a Halloween card from Hallmark. The outside says:
"Hey Baby! Lookin' good! Woo-Woo! Nice Butt! Wanna get luck?" and the inside says: "You'll have to excuse him. He ticked off a witch and she turned him into a horny toad. Happy Halloween." I do not have a date for this item.

Frog of the Day

The Frog Wrangler and I have been up since early this morning so I'm actually sitting down to blog a bit early today. The temps here at Frog Central are going to be much cooler today - only 98 degrees is forecast. And that's the coolest temp listed for the next 5 days - heading into the low 100's the rest of the days. In this heat I'm not all that interested in cooking, but yesterday I made some fried eggplant. I haven't had it in what seems forever and oh boy was it tasty.

This frog collectible is from Anheuser-Busch and is the Budweiser Frogs as a refrigerator magnet that croaks out the Bud - wei - ser when the large frog is pressed down. The frogs themselves are magnetized and can be used to hold up papers on the fridge. This dates to 1997 and does have the official seal on the bottom.

Frog of the Day

The oppressive heat has dissipated a bit - at least during the overnight hours. So last night I went to open some windows only to be met with the sweet scent of the neighborhood skunk! So down went the windows. It was still good sleeping weather and I was shocked to roll over thinking I had been asleep for about a half hour only to find that it was just after 6 a.m. and the Frog Wrangler was standing next to the bed watching me in anticipation of going out. So as much as I wanted to just bury my head under the covers, once the eyes have opened and the Wrangler has seen it, you're getting up - one way or another. Well I guess since I'm up I should really get busy doing some chores......

This frog item is a pin from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) protesting animal dissection. In a lot of biology classrooms this fall, frogs will be dissected. This is totally unnecessary however since there are computer simulation programs that give children the same experience without the needless slaughter of frogs. And I don't know about you, but the two years of dissecting different animals in high school did nothing for me except keep me nauseas!

So she climbed onto the edge of the tub and jumped up onto the sink, pulled in a hand towel and made herself a nice bed to sleep in! An awful lot of work for a nap the Frog Wrangler would say, but Ida is just a young pup and full of energy. The Frog Wrangler will hopefully be back this next week, ready to take back her duties. I'm beginning to feel like I'm in a city with taking a cab everywhere. Unfortunately here you have to call and schedule a pick-up, you just can't step to the curb and hail one.

This frog collectible is from Hagen-Renaker and is a Frog Prince. He measures only 2 inches in length. A cute little guy that I received like this - detached from his paper base. I do not have a date for this item.

It's a shame to hear that the heat has been claiming victims here in Southern Illinois. Apparently we even made the national news this morning. In January the electric companies here in Illinois were de-regulated which caused electric bill to double and triple. A lot of the elderly and those on a fixed income are not turning on their air conditioners because they fear they won't be able to afford the bill. That is an outrage. Thankfully, the area I live in is a co-op for electric and the town owns all the utilities, thus the electric rate spike didn't affect me. Do try to keep cool out there and head to cooling centers if you don't have air conditioning. Here at Frog Central the heat index will be 110 before noon - you know it will only get hotter from there.

Two blocks later, feeling the effects of the heat already I decided to turn around come back. So a lot of hydration later I think I'm alright. It's supposed to be 105 here today and I'd bet it was darn close to that by the time I got back! I don't know how people do it who have to work out in this heat all the time. My hats off to them!

Frog of the Day

Yesterday turned out to be a disaster. I headed out in 100 plus degree weather to go to the bank, put gas in the car, and then to the barbecue. I pulled up to the gas pump - spent a small fortune - and hopped in ready to head off to the barbecue only to find that the transmission went on the car. I was able to get it into gear and get it home at about 5 miles an hour. So today's barbecue is definitely out of the question! as are a lot of things planned for this next week. I'm afraid it's going to be taxi time for a while.

This frog collectible is from Russ by artist Kathleen Kelly. It is part of the Wee Christmas Country-Kins and is a frog ornament. I do not have a date for this item.

So not much gets done when you have a 60 pound lap dog. I don't mind. If it makes her feel better than I guess I've done a good job for the day. With it being the first week of the month I had to sit down and write out all the bills. A couple months ago I bought an HP Deskjet 1400 series printer and I can't say enough good things about it - I needed a copy, one of it's features and voila! No running to the post office to get one of their lousy, poor quality copies.

This frog item is a very large, very heavy piece of statuary which I think is really cool. It is 18 inches high and 18 inches deep, weighing in at about 80 pounds! It is called Gentleman Frog - and he does look very dapper. This wonderful piece of art can be found at Statue.com.

It's amazing how much hair comes of her and it leaves wondering sometimes how she has any fur left on her! She loves getting brushed and that takes some of it up, but she'll lay on the floor and stand up, walk away, leaving an outline of where she was! It gives me and the vacuum a workout.

Along with a number of cardinals, mourning doves, and the white squirrel that were in abundance this morning, the last couple of days has brought a large number of butterflies - they look like the Monarch butterfly, but I understand there are a number of species that look close, so I wouldn't say for sure. It's definitely one of the advantages of living in a small town.

Today we have another Guest Frog of the Day! Lessie Mae lives in North Carolina and sent me this picture of a Frog Backpack that she picked up at her local Kohl's store. She tells me the frog is hugging a nice sized fleece blanket and that she can't wait to give it to her nephew. It sounds like frog collecting is a family affair there for Lessie Mae in North Carolina. Thanks for sharing Lessie Mae!

It is a lot of fun seeing what you the blog reader have in your collection. Click on the write me link there in the right hand column and send me a picture of your favorite frog - or one of your whole collection!
