The best thing for me is that she's beginning to realize that she likes being petted. When Gertie first arrived she was really shy about being touched and petted. I said that she was more like a cat. She wanted to jump into your lap and settle down and take a nap - pet her and she's jump down. Persistence is paying off and it's so cool to see her come up now and want to be petted.

This morning she was a little more curious about the camera than normal. I know she's thinking - what are you doing on the other side of this thing?

Happy Thanksgiving

Just a quick note to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the turkey with all the trimmings or lasagna (as in my case). And if you're planning on shopping tomorrow - be careful! Here in Illinois there's a touch of rain that is supposed to freeze tonight leaving a nice glaze of ice.

There is SNOW in the forecast!

Yesterday was a really bad day. I got out of bed around 6:30 a.m. after not sleeping the entire night. That meant a pounding headache for the majority of the day. I had called the doctor's office the day before because I wasn't feeling well and they were to call a prescription in to CVS. As of yesterday afternoon CVS swore to me that hadn't received it. I showed up at the doctor's office ready to go up one side of them and down the other - they called CVS while I stood there - only to find out that it was CVS that had the prescription but forgot to fill it. Ugh! I get so tired of tracking down other people's incompetence. Thankfully I got a bit of sleep last night. I was sounding like a teapot whistle by the time I got up this morning. Poor Gertie had to lift her head every time I breathed out trying to figure out what that funny sound was. I ended up getting up a bit early and having a cup of hot chocolate. That always makes you feel better.

The newspaper says that snow is in the forecast for tomorrow - Thanksgiving Day. On the news last night they said that this was the latest date on record for snowfall of any kind. If the forecasters are right and snow does fall tomorrow, I hope the rest of their forecast is correct - 60 degrees over the weekend!

Tomorrow I'm breaking with the turkey tradition - I'm going to have lasagna. The green channel is going to have a Living with Ed marathon - there are a couple of episodes of the new season I haven't seen. Supposedly there's also a Living with Rochelle - that is Ed's wife. I haven't seen that one at all yet. Of course I'll probably have to switch over to the Macy's parade when that comes on. I don't know for sure, I haven't enjoyed their parades as much in recent years.

Where did today go?

Today has just flown by! Gertie has been very patient with me while I did some computer stuff this morning - she's not so happy this evening. She's ready for some serious play time! Tomorrow I have to run out to the pharmacy and the post office. Then maybe I can sit down in my big, oversized chair and spend the remainder of the day playing fetch with Gertie.

While I work on the computer, Gertie waits patiently - usually sleeping. When I took this picture she had to look up to see what was going on. She went right back to sleep when I was done. We're both tired today - the last couple of days have been pretty busy. I finished the labels for the fruitcake, which was the last thing to do for them this season. Now we can both go hibernate......

Happy 5th Anniversary

Quarry Critters - Forest
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino
As long term readers know, Forest (from Quarry Critters) likes to come around on our anniversary to see how things are going. Can you believe that we've been here for 5 full years. Today starts year number 6. It seems hard to believe that what started, for me, as a way to inventory my frog collection, has become an integral part of my life. Along the way I've made quite a few friends. You've helped me locate hard to find frogs for collectors who were looking and even offered some up for sale. You've sent a lot of questions, asking about specific frog collectibles - I hope that the information I've passed along has helped. One of my frogs was photographed to become an animated character in a movie. I found out that the people at Christopher Radko take a peek at the sight from time to time. And this last year I was offered a chance to tell my collecting story for an article. All in all - it's been a busy year.

The format of the blog has worked well for me and I don't forsee any changes in th coming year - but then we never do see change, do we? At least not until it is upon us.

I want to say thank you to all of you. You really make this a lot of fun and worthwhile. Happy 5th Anniversary everyone!

Cold and Wet Weather

The last two days have been really cold, wet, and rainy here at Fog Central. Yesterday Gertie and I stayed bundled up and caught up on some much needed rest. Today I had to go out to Walmart and do some grocery shopping - nothing worse than getting soaking wet and then walking into the grocery store. I sloshed around though for over an hour and got lots of groceries - hopefully enough for the rest of the month.

A lot is going on here in Tidy Town - they're getting ready for the winter lights in the park. I'd like to get over for it this year. A lot of places have announced their Thanksgiving meals - I plan on staying home, nothing special.

I received the boxes for the fruitcake today - hopefully the Christmas paper fill will be here tomorrow. Then all I have to do is put together the little flyer I want to put in the boxes with the fruitcake (nutritional label, ingredients, etc.). Tomorrow I get to baste them with brandy - a couple more weeks and they'll be done!

Frog of the Day

It's been a really overcast day here at Frog Central - perfect frog weather! The threat of rain is forcast for most of this week - so far nothing. A little farther to the west they're having snow and I hope it doesn't drift this way. The best thing to do on a dark and dreary day - especially a Monday - is stay under the covers. Gertie and I took a long nap this afternoon. Now maybe I'll stay awake tonight during The Colbert Report - maybe......

This frog collectible I received last month for my birthday. This is an older frog made of ceramic. It is marked on the bottom that it was Handpainted in Japan. I do not have a date for this item. It is in very good shape - only a small chip on the one foot. You'll find in frog collecting that spot is popular for chipping, as is the mouth in a number of high end pottery makers.

Gertie's had a good week this last week - I've been taking her out nearly every day to get her used to the car. She doesn't want to hop in for fear I'm going to take her someplace where she'll get a shot or a bath. I had to go pick up more brandy for the fruitcake on Friday. Who knew they'd have dog treats in the drive thru. Another place to take her for treats!

The temps were pretty nice this whole last week and so we spent a lot of time outside. Yesterday it was almost 70 degrees. Gertie did not want to come back inside at all yesterday. Besides, she had a lot of squirrels to chase around. She wore me right out and so I foolishly had fallen asleep in my chair. Gertie was not tired and let me know so - if staring doesn't work, a quick bark does the trick.

The temps have changed today and things are supposed to get rainy and cold for this next week. Ugh! At least there's no snow - I see those reports of "feet of snow" on the news and thank goodness I don't live there! Who knows if Gertie will like the snow - I'm currently looking for a little jacket to put on her for when she goes out and it's really cold. Currently, her form of getting warm is to crawl into my arms and curl up for a nap. And who could resist a cutie face like that....

A slow morning

Gertie and I can't get started this morning. I was up all night tossing and turning - finally up at 4 a.m. watching the news. Finally around 6 I fell asleep in my chair. I woke up with Gertie curled up in my lap, watching and waiting for me to finally get around to playing with her. She's got two new toys and they need to be played with.

Yesterday the fruitcakes were all re-soaked with brandy - only two more weeks and they'll be ready to go!

I'm generally annoyed with advertisements on television lately. You have to have the volume all the way up to hear the program you're watching, only to have your ear drums burst when the ad comes on. And who really wants to buy kitty litter that leaves your cat unable to find the litter box? Ridiculous....

She's been up all morning so we were barely in the door when she curled up and is sound asleep. While she was getting pampered I ran a bunch of errands - three stores and I couldn't find a sheepskin pad to put on the passenger seat for Gertie - she slides all over the leather interior.

It's by Tough Enuff and I highly recommend it - this is one toy she hasn't been able to tear apart within a month. This weekend has been a pretty lazy one for the both of us - lots of catching up on our rest. This next week I'm looking to take her over to the groomers for a bath and nail trim.

I turned my computer on this morning at 7 and two hours later it's finally up and running. I hate the daily downloads of updates that you get inundated with. This morning there was a total of 10 updates. Oh well, it gave me a chance to have a leisurely breakfast, do dishes, and spend some quality time playing catch with Gertie.

This frog collectible is the second in the series of Yoga Frogs from Young, Inc. It makes me ache to just think of getting into a position like that!

When she finally curled up under my feet and fell asleep I was able to get some computer things done. Hopefully I'm all caught up for the day. I think Gertie has the right idea - an afternoon nap is in order.

This frog collectible is from Young, Inc. and is entitled Yoga Frog. I'm not conversant in yoga positions so I'll not hazard a guess. This is one of four - each in a different yoga position. They are made of resin and a Made in China sticker is located on the bottom of each. A cute and different collectible to add to the collection. I received this October 2009 for my birthday.
